Clinical Medical Assistant

This program* teaches you the in-demand clinical and administrative skills that are valued in physicians’ offices and clinics from coast to coast. By program completion, you’ll have the necessary requirements for eligibility to become a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). You’ll also receive job placement assistance.
Program overview
Class after class instills knowledge and training you’ll need as a clinical medical assistant in a clinical setting or medical office. You’ll learn the business side, like billing and coding, as well as the lab side by learning procedures for hematology/phlebotomy, electrocardiograms (EKG) and more. This program includes an internship where you can gain practical hands-on experience. As a clinical medical assistant, here are some of your duties and responsibilities:
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
- Prep patients for exams
- Sterilize medical instruments
- Draw blood and perform EKGs
- Manage billing and coding
- Appointment scheduling
- Answer phones and greet patients
Career outcome
Medical assisting is one of the fastest-growing jobs in any field, not just healthcare. The Bureau of Labor Statistics** projects a 34% growth for medical assistants through 2018. Most employable are those with experience and a diploma, which you can both have upon graduation. The median wage and salary, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, was $28,300 in 2008.
