UEI College in Reseda marked an unforgettable milestone by hosting two fall graduation ceremonies, celebrating both Allied Health and Skilled Trades graduates, with distinguished guests, congressional recognition, and a meaningful surprise honoring long-standing community leadership.
State Senator Caroline Menjivar delivered a powerful and forward-thinking keynote address to the Skilled Trades Class of 2025. Drawing from her own non-linear educational and professional journey, Senator Menjivar shared how she explored multiple career paths—including Phlebotomy and EMT training—before finding her calling as a social worker and, ultimately, as an elected official representing the San Fernando Valley. A Marine Corps veteran who has led in male-dominated fields, her story resonated deeply with graduates pursuing diverse career paths.
“Maybe this is your first career, maybe this is your second, or your fifth—it does not matter,” she told graduates. “Each of you is wearing the same gown and the same cap.”
Senator Menjivar emphasized the importance of the industries graduates were entering, noting that the fastest-growing sectors in California and Los Angeles County are the very trades and professions represented by the graduating class. She also highlighted the comprehensive support students receive throughout their program and beyond.
“After your graduation, it doesn’t end there,” she shared. “You have a home, a foundation you can always turn to—for job placement, networking, and connections—because that’s what it’s all about.”
In a moment that drew both laughter and pride, she added, “You’re going to be making good money—more than me!”
Adding to the celebration, U.S. Representative Brad Sherman provided Congressional Certificates of Recognition to every graduate at both ceremonies. Although he was unable to attend in person due to urgent business in Washington, D.C., his recognition underscored the significance of the graduates’ achievements.
A special surprise during the ceremony honored Regional Vice President Jackie Azizyan, who received a Congressional Certificate of Recognition for 30 years of dedicated service to the San Fernando Valley. The recognition celebrated her lasting impact on students, education, and the broader community.
