Students in Fresno Win Contest, Make $1000 Donation to Boys & Girls Club

UEI College hosted a social media contest in December, challenging students in different classes at all 16 UEI locations to see who could raise the most awareness for their local Boys and Girls Club. To win the contest, students in the class had to share a post on social media to see who could generate the most likes and shares. The HVAC class taught by instructor Christopher Bain at the UEI College campus in Fresno tied with another class at the Chula Vista campus for first place, winning a $1,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Fresno County.

“A great job by the students for their efforts in the #UEICares contest. I am very proud of them,” Bain said.

“I was a Boys and girls club member growing up in the East San Jose area. I have great memories going daily to a safe and fun filled place with arts and crafts, sports, tournaments. To find out my department had a fundraiser that was able to raise a $1000 made me feel proud to be a part of it. The Unity that brought the students together reminded me of the unity at the Boys and Girls Club,” said Louie Lopez, HVAC Department Chair at UEI Fresno.

“Thank you to the students and everyone who participated in the contest. I am thrilled that we had a winning class at the Fresno campus, and the donation to worthy organization in our community. The Boys & Girls Club is a vital resource for the youth in Fresno County and we are happy to support them,” said Ada Clower, Campus President at UEI Fresno.

“We serve over 6,000 young people from underserved and disadvantaged families and the foster care system. The Boys & Girls Club has been serving this community for 71 years,” said Sandy Chaney, Director of Community Relations and Special Events. “On behalf of all of our members at our 16 clubs in the area, I want to say thank you very much and kudos to the students at UEI College. This donation is truly appreciated.”

“UEI launched the Cares campaign last year as a way to give back to the local community while engaging students in the process. To date, we have contributed $5,500 to local nonprofits throughout the country, including the Boys & Girls Club. Congratulations to the HVAC class in Fresno for winning this contest, and I look forward to the student enthusiasm for our next campaign,” said Dr. Fardad Fateri, President and CEO.
