UEI College Automotive Technician Student Shares His Story
If you have always had a love for cars, becoming an automotive technician may be the right career path for you. As a technician in the automotive industry, you will always be on your toes as things change constantly. You may find yourself working on an antique 1969 Mustang one minute and then the next a 2019 Chevy Silverado.
Automotive technicians are skilled in their trade and are responsible for learning and knowing many different systems from electrical work down to the actual mechanics of the engine, transmission, and car.

Bryan is one of our automotive technician students at the UEI College West Covina campus. BRYAN’S STORY
My name is Bryan and I am a current automotive technician student at UEI College. I chose to go into this program because I have always loved cars and have been around them my whole life. I developed an appreciation for cars from when I was a young boy and continued to share a love in them as I grew up, which led me to want to be an automotive technician.
Prior to finding my way to UEI College, I had some troubling times along the way and for the longest time, I did not know what I wanted to do. I tried to separate myself from the bad influences that I was surrounded by and I stopped involving myself with bad crowds after spending time in the juvenile system.
I graduated from the Los Angeles Conservation Corps after getting my high school diploma and went straight to the working field. As time passed, I had many breakdowns. From getting laid off to losing friends, my depression got the best of me and I lost interest in everything, until I got the help I needed and the support from my loved ones.
After becoming homeless for the second time, I moved to West Covina for a fresh start. One of my friends, who also goes to UEI College, encouraged me to pursue a career training program. He had a similar story to me, so I trusted him. I took the chance and started researching UEI College and their programs. I noticed they had a program for the automotive technician field so I signed up right away. I couldn’t even believe how quickly my life had changed in one week – from being homeless to being sheltered by my loved ones to enrolling in college at UEI. This program has literally saved my life and has been a dream come true.
Unlike other schools in my past, UEI College puts ME first. They listen to what I have to say, and they help guide and direct me towards success. The automotive technician program provides me with the hands-on training I need to be successful for when I graduate. There are many things I have learned in this program and I continue to learn something new every day.
I feel welcomed, even just walking into the campus. My life is about to change for the better and I know that this is the best decision I have made so far.
