UEI College Bakersfield Brings Every Level of Government Together to Celebrate Graduates
In a historic show of community-wide support, UEI College in Bakersfield brought together representatives from every level of government — from City Hall to the U.S. Congress — to honor the achievements of its graduates at the fall graduation ceremony held on October 17th.
A Unified Celebration of Student Success
The event featured participation from local, state, and federal officials, each extending their congratulations to UEI graduates and their families.
U.S. Congressman Vince Fong opened the celebration with a personal message recognizing the perseverance and dedication of the Class of 2025.
California State Senator Shannon Grove presented official certificates of recognition to both valedictorians, representing UEI’s Allied Health and Skilled Trades programs.
Assemblymember Dr. Jasmeet Bains and Bakersfield City Councilman Andrae Gonzales joined together in honoring every graduate with personalized certificates of recognition to accompany their diplomas.
Adding to the sense of local pride, Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh delivered a special congratulatory message, offering her recognition and appreciation on behalf of the city’s highest office.
A Keynote Message of Pride and Purpose
The ceremonies were highlighted by a keynote address from Councilman Gonzales, who spoke passionately about the power of education, perseverance, and community.
“Your city is proud of you,” Gonzales told graduates. “I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when people invest in themselves — especially first-generation students. You are stepping into professions that keep this community healthy, strong, and moving forward.”
He went on to challenge graduates to measure success not only by titles or paychecks, but by how they “show up for other people.” When Gonzales asked all first-generation graduates to stand, the moment drew emotional applause from the entire audience.
Impact by the Numbers
This year’s ceremonies marked a milestone for the Bakersfield campus:
- Nearly 400 graduates were recognized.
- More than 2,000 guests attended across two ceremonies.
- Both ceremonies featured moving valedictorian speeches from the Allied Health and Skilled Trades programs.
A Community United in Celebration
The 2025 Bakersfield graduation represented more than individual achievement — it was a collective celebration of education’s power to strengthen families, communities, and futures. UEI College Bakersfield’s ability to bring together city, state, and federal leaders across party lines stands as a reflection of the shared belief that education changes lives — and that the success of students is the success of the entire community. Congratulations to the UEI College Bakersfield Class of 2025!
