Questions You Should Ask During a Dental Assistant Interview
First of all, congratulations on being called in to interview for a dental assistant job! That is a huge feat in itself to have been chosen, but the journey is just beginning. Interviewing for a new job can be scary, but also exciting as it shows that the dental business has enough interest in you to meet you and give you another chance to strut your stuff. Therefore, you want to give them the same courtesy and respect by researching the company and going to a dental assistant interview prepared with questions to ask them. This proves that you’re interested in the company enough and are doing your own due diligence to try to determine if it’s a mutual fit.
Along with being confident, attentive, professional, and demonstrating the value and skills you can bring to the business, here are some questions you can ask your interviewers that will help you get that coveted dental assistant position:
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE JOB TO DETERMINE IF YOU’RE A FIT FOR IT
Being a dental assistant requires that you communicate effectively with customers and can take direction well from the dentist and other superiors. Therefore, you want to show that you are a team player and can work well with others.
If you ask: Who will I be reporting to? Then you can get a sense of who you are taking direction from and can go into positive experiences you’ve had in the past with similar bosses.
If you ask: What is a typical day or workweek like for a dental assistant here? The answers will give you an idea about whether the tasks you are expected to perform, and office environment, are compatible with your values and a place you would be happy in.
QUESTIONS THAT GIVE FURTHER INSIGHT INTO THE COMPANY’S VALUES
Learning what is expected of you in a day-to-day basis of a dental assistant career is a good first step, but here are some other questions you can ask that give further insight into whether this particular dental business is a good fit for you or not:
Feel free to ask: Why is this job open? Hopefully you’ll get an answer that’s something like, “we’re growing so fast that we need to expand our team”.
It’s also nice to ask: Why do you like working here? This will hopefully bring a smile out of the interviewer if they truly do like working there and they will also likely tell you about some of the lesser known benefits of the job.
WHAT NOT TO ASK AN INTERVIEWER
Remember that this interview is all about the value you’ll bring to the company, so you want to avoid asking questions that are centered around yourself, like asking how much time off you’ll be getting or if you can work every other Tuesday. You want to show that you’re willing to put the company ahead of your personal life and the paycheck.
